Course: ISM 320 – Advanced Principles of Interactivity
Role: Designer
Summary: This course allowed me to focus on analyzing and re-designing existing websites. My projects involved two types of assignments: critique and design.
Critique | Design |
---|---|
The purpose of a critique is to analyze how well an existing website adheres to the selected focus principles. The process includes sketching a deconstruction of the website’s UI to better analyze its structure and discover the problems. | The purpose of a re-design is to develop a revised version of the system using the results from the critique. The process includes creating a design brief that identifies the problem, the goals for the redesign, and the design solution. |

REFLECTION:
I learned so much design principles; I even taught the class a principle called Performance Load. Overall, this course made me a better designer because I can now look at an existing website and critique its effectiveness. Furthermore, this class helped me develop my wireframing and prototyping skills in Axure. I also got to create an interactive prototype for my P3 project and used the Notes section to write my instructions. I know I can watch Axure tutorials to learn how to implement more or certain types of interactivity in my prototypes, as well as research more design patterns that work well to improve the user experience of an existing site.
